 \n<p>https://studentevents.bham.ac.uk/ents/event/4220/</p>\n<p>Deforestat
ion has devastating effects on primates globally\, particularly in parts
of South America\, Asia and Africa. Primates are particularly sensitive t
o deforestation because they rely on trees for food (fruits\, leaves\, an
d insects) and shelter. The destruction of habitats due to logging\, agri
cultural expansion and infrastructure projects displaces countless primat
e species\, or forces them to adapt to a new way of life. Deforestation i
n places such as Brazil\, home to the Amazon rainforest\, has led to isol
ated and fragmented primate groups\, reduced genetic diversity and increa
sed their risks from poaching and human-wildlife conflict. Conservation e
fforts\, both in their natural environment and in captive environments ar
ound the world are essential to ensure the survival of these vital specie
s.</p>\n\n<p>In this session we will look at some of the impacts of defor
estation on primates around the globe and consider the role of sanctuarie
s and zoos to support their conservation\, drawing on research undertaken
by scientists in the School of Biosciences and the Birmingham Institute
of Sustainability and Climate Action. You will have the opportunity to se
e if you can design your own enclosure suitable to support the health and
wellbeing of primates for future generations.</p>\n\n<p><a href="https:/
