n<p>New materials can help tackle climate change\, improve healthcare\, p
ower cleaner technologies and create possibilities we have not yet imagin
ed. They can also lead to more extraction\, pollution\, waste\, inequalit
y and consequences that only emerge years later.</p>\n\n<p>So\, do we sti
ll need to invent new materials?</p>\n\n<p>In this two-hour public mock t
rial\, students will put that question on trial. After two days of resear
ch\, expert interviews and deliberation\, they will present a semi-script
ed Tribunal for Future Generations featuring competing arguments\, eviden
 ce\, testimony\, speeches\, deliberation and debate.</p>\n\n<p>You will h
ear the case for continued invention\, encounter the arguments against it
\, and consider perspectives spanning science\, engineering\, sustainabil
ity\, economics\, ethics and society. By the end of the evening\, the evi
dence will have been heard\, the arguments tested and a final public judg
ement delivered.</p>\n\n<p>This event is for anyone curious about materia
 ls\, sustainability\, innovation\, ethics\, public policy or the future o
f science and technology. No specialist knowledge is required\, and you d
o not need to have taken part in the preceding preparation programme. Jus
t bring yourself\, take your seat and prepare to hear the future of mater
 ials put on trial.</p>\n\n<p><a href="https://forms.office.com/e/74Jbvsgj
