Nineteenth-Century Lesbians: Proto-queer poets and the 'Sapphic Imaginary'

This talk will explore the works and lives of three Sapphic writers: Amy Levy, Olive Custance, Vernon Lee, at the end of the long nineteenth century. Sappho was the original 'Lesbian' of Ancient Greece, who provided popular and adaptable material for proto-queer writers and artists to re-imagine for their own purposes.' - Casey Maeve
