How can reading poetry change your perception of nature?

John Holmes will read and discuss a selection of poems about trees and forests from the nineteenth century to the present, by British, Caribbean and indigenous North American poets, to show how poetry can open our minds to new ways of thinking about and appreciating the natural world.

Sara Wood will read and discuss extracts from a range of 20th century US literary texts to explore how ecological approaches – from ‘honourable harvests’ to ‘thinking like a mountain’ – can inspire us to re-imagine our role in addressing environmental crises.

This activity is open to all students, everyone is welcome and no prior knowledge of the topic or texts is needed. No need to book in advance, just join on the day.
