International Women's Day events and activities

International Women's Day takes place on 8 March, with this year's theme being Give to Gain, encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration. This year's celebrations mark 115 years of International Women's Day, having been established in 1911.

Guild of Students: Bloody Lovely Afternoon: 3rd March 1:15pm - 4th March 2pm; Amos Room, Guild of Students; It’s time to reclaim your period and your power! Faith, Feminism and the Future: 5th March 1pm - 2pm; Worship Room, Multifaith Chaplaincy; Join us for an International Women’s Day event with Rev’d Dr Jenny Morgans as she shares insights from her research on Christian women at university and reflects on how the Multifaith Chaplaincy shaped her journey into feminism and ministry.

Celebrating Jessie Ball: 6th March 1pm - 1:45pm; Cadbury Research Library Seminar Room, Muirhead Tower; Cadbury Research Library will mark International Women’s Day on Friday 6 March by hosting Rosalind Janssen’s talk, ‘Celebrating Jessie Ball’, which will retrieve Jessie’s voice and agency.

Guild of Students: Dancing Queens: 7th March 11pm - midnight; Guild of Students; Celebrate International Women’s Day in style with the Guild's Dancing Queens club night! DJ Kate Frost will be playing all your favourite songs from women, and you can even have a go at karaoke.

Guild of Students: Women's Run around Selly: 8th March 10am - noon; Meet at South Gate, UoB; Come join us and Girls Run Brum on International Womens day for a womens run around Selly. We will be finishing at Deli 17 where you can have a drink as well as recieve one of our womens day goody bags! No need to sign up.

International Women's Day Bread and Belief: Feminist Theology: 9th March 2pm - 4pm; Oasis Lounge, Multifaith Chaplaincy; Bake and eat bread. Discuss feminist theology, with excerpts from foundational texts. Take away the bread you baked.

My Hijab & I: Understanding Muslim Women’s Experiences: 11th March 1pm - 2pm; Online; Join us online for a webinar exploring the lived experiences of Muslim women who wear the hijab, where speakers will share personal reflections on identity, empowerment, spirituality, and navigating common misconceptions.

KPMG - Together We Rise: an International Women's Day celebration: 12th March 4pm - 5pm; Room G11, Alan Walters building; Join us in celebration of International Women’s Day for Together We Rise, a virtual panel discussion highlighting how women at KPMG and beyond have supported, mentored and empowered one another to grow and excel in their careers.

Her Seat at the Table: Becoming a Female Leader: 18th March 2pm - 4:30pm; Women’s Guild Officer, Lucy McCabe, will be hosting a panel of leading female professionals who will share their experiences of navigating the workplace and discuss how to tackle some of the challenges you may face.

B Film: Tradition and Transgression - Female Voices in Male Spaces: 18th March 6pm - 8pm; Carroll Room (G15), Muirhead Tower; Join us for an inspiring 90-minute programme celebrating female empowerment through documentary film and conversation, as award-winning filmmaker Charysse Tia Harper presents a short documentary exploring women who challenge gender barriers.

Women in Sustainability: Pathways into sustainability careers: 19th March 2pm - 3pm; Online; Join us for an interactive session open to all students interested in careers in sustainability. Hear from women working in sustainability-focused roles about their personal career journeys, insights into different pathways, and practical advice.
