As a student at the University of Birmingham, you’ve probably noticed the many beautiful green spaces scattered across our campus. From peaceful gardens to vibrant woodlands, our natural environment is something truly special – and we want to celebrate it with you!
We’re inviting all students to take part in a fun and creative photography competition that showcases the rich biodiversity and beauty of our university’s green spaces. Over the coming weeks, take some time to explore the outdoors on campus or other University-owned properties. Whether it’s a quiet corner of the Winterbourne Gardens, a sunlit path through the Vale, or a hidden gem you’ve discovered, we want to see it through your lens and what biodiversity on campus looks like to you.
What to capture?
Think about themes like:
- Nature and wildlife
- Sustainability in action
- Hidden green gems
- Seasonal beauty
Once all submissions have been uploaded, we will put this to a panel of judges from across the University, including staff working in the Green Impact Team, Creative Media, Branding and Biodiversity research who will each have their own unique take on the photos submitted, from composition and framing and how it may showcase the biodiversity on campus to the subject of the photo.
During the last week of UoB Xtra we will also be running an eco-poetry workshop open to all students where we will be using the three shortlisted finalist photos as inspiration to write some interesting poetry, the shortlisted finalists will be invited to the end of the session where they can hear some of the poetry written about their photographs and we will announce the prizes.
