What can you do with a stack of old academic posters that would otherwise be thrown away? Build a four-metre-wide geodesic dome!

Drop in at any point during the day and work with other students to assemble the structure. No experience of construction, design or materials is needed, and you can stay for as much or as little of the build as you like.

As the dome takes shape, you will discover how geodesic domes work, why they are so strong and efficient, and how they connect with materials science, architecture, design, sustainability, ecology and even zoos and community gardens.

The story does not end when the dome is finished. One of the structures will later become a mushroom-growing space on campus through the CAPPUCCINO initiative, bringing together two circular projects to transform university waste into something useful, visible and slightly unexpected.

The activity is open to anyone who enjoys making things, solving practical problems or exploring sustainability, design, materials and architecture. Wear practical clothing and footwear suitable for hands-on work and the weather. All materials and equipment will be provided.

The project is supported by the Alumni Impact Fund, whose team will be there to capture the build and the finished dome.
